Nearby residents rallied to stop Mueller Pallets. Now the company is going live.
For Margie Mueller and clan, the quest to open a new wood recycling facility in the Sioux Falls area was not a sprint. It was a marathon.
But the finish line is near. Mueller Pallets plans to open a new facility west of the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill. Wood Hound Wood Yard, as its being called, is opening for business on Jan. 2 – in time to begin accepting Christmas trees in its wood grinding operation.

And they hope to get Christmas trees thanks to a fundraiser that Boy Scout Troop 371 is holding Saturday. The Scouts are offering to pick up undecorated Christmas trees at area residences with a suggested donation of $20. The money will be used for summer camp.
Mueller Pallets is sponsoring the fundraiser.
Since winning a conditional use permit to open the facility on 267th Street in October, Mueller Pallets been readying the 13-acre site. The company is hoping that physical improvements to the site, as well as operational changes, will help the facility win over residents east of the landfill.
