Local rumor mill: Amanda purchased a new Ford Expedition from the Watertown Ford dealer in late summer. She had the vehicle titled in her name. Several weeks ago, the car was repossessed for nonpayment at the city office. Amanda stated to the dealer that the city should have been making the payment. The Ford dealer made city councilors aware of the situation last week, and they began an audit of her office. She immediately accepted the Harrisburg job and notified councilors of her planned departure. After investigation, it was decided that she had broken no laws but was using influence in her position for personal gain.

What an irresponsible and false statement. Which council member had you write this- one can only imagine. Mack has been driving the same truck for years.

No one told me to write it. I have no idea what she drives. It's the rumor. I never said it was fact.

I guess anything goes these days, but it used to be that gossip, sharing rumors would be considered bad behavior at best and cruel and hurtful at worst. What's to be gained? You admit you aren't saying it's a fact, so sharing it doesn't add anything of value--but it's definitely hurtful. Is this the way you'd like to be treated?

Amanda took the Harrisburg job and honored her contract by giving the required notice. It's not unheard of for organizations to waive the notice requirement and end a contract--you and I are not privy to the details. It's a personnel matter--she wasn't dismissed for cause; she resigned. Sharing rumors is deliberately hurtful and cruel.

Was not aware executive sessions were intended to accommodate “hours long closed-door meetings”.
