Water levels in flood-gripped parts of South Dakota to rise through weekend
Officials warn conditions will worsen after rain stops
The rain has slowed, but the worst of the fallout is yet to come.
That’s the message Gov. Kristi Noem, Mayor Paul TenHaken and public safety officials in South Dakota made during an early Saturday morning news conference after more than 18 inches of precipitation fell over parts of the southeast region of the state since Thursday.
“We have 21 different counties we are working with right now that are experiencing flooding,” the governor said while warning that river levels in southeast and central South Dakota will continue to rise as storm runoff continues over the weekend.
