An iconic bridge that spanned the Missouri River between the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre for decades came down Monday as part of a controlled demolition.
Area residents lined the river to catch a view of the John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge after crews placed explosive charges along the structure that’s part of the Highway 83-Highway 14 road network. And in a matter of seconds, the bridge that first opened in 1962 was no longer.
