Voters pass on overhauling state election system
Open Primaries was well financed but falls short
When it comes to elections, South Dakota voters will stick with the status quo.
Voters Tuesday rejected a measure that would have overhauled the state’s election system, opting to stay with tradition. Amendment H would have lumped all candidates in a race into one primary election, regardless of political party. The top finishers in the primary would meet in the general election.
At press time, the amendment was losing 32 percent to 68 percent.
