Murderers would have to serve entirety of their sentence under proposed legislation
Lawmakers have heard the calls for parole reform in South Dakota.
Public safety officials in Minnehaha County are working with state legislators to overhaul early-release policies for inmates incarcerated by the Department of Corrections. And a proposal being carried forward by Sen.-elect Brent Hoffman would completely scrap the presumptive parole system that’s been on the books in South Dakota since 1996.
