VIEWPOINT | We'll keep losing fight against lethal superbugs if Congress doesn't act

South Dakota doctors, and patients, are locked in a life-or-death fight with antibiotic-resistant superbugs.
In recent years, several healthcare facilities have recorded outbreaks of the antibiotic-resistant "nightmare bacteria" known as CRE, which can kill up to half of infected patients.
The menace isn't unique to South Dakota, of course. Antibiotic-resistant infections cause more than 2.8 million infections every year in the United States and contribute to nearly 170,000 deaths.
