There are so many lies in this opinion piece is hard to know where to begin since everything is lies.

I can't believe you guys ran this like its actual facts. This kind of false equivalency doesn't serve anyone.

Almost every point in this opinion piece is either a falsehood or a reflection of your own prejudice and narcissism. Trump did not receive a "mandate"; that is merely part of the Trump propaganda agenda, reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s.

He's got the House, the Senate, SCOTUS, and POTUS. You will want to watch the bill with the label "reconciliation". That's where the good stuff will be placed.

The truth is clear: with a mere two votes in the House, this is NOT a mandate. Yet, here we are witnessing the MAGA faction resorting to political maneuvering instead of engaging in respectful debate and genuine voting.

This article seems to be just a continuation of Trump accusations and propaganda with nothing substantiated. I’m very disappointed to see it on your newsfeed as anything other than an opinion piece. This is how unsubstantiated claims get to be regarded as truth, just because they were published by an accepted news service.

It is an opinion piece. It represents the opinion of 75% of SD residents. Demodummies are big losers here.

These are all lies, misstatements, and conjecture. They even avoid scientific facts. What is this doing here on the week you ask me to send you money?

I guess the only reason you ever read anything is to support your own biases. DS seems to be trying to put out a plethora of views. I rather like that myself.

That's it...just views....not one piece of evidence to support any of the claims.

Neal "third place in the 2018 primary" Tapio commits numerous logical fallacies in his "counterpoint" but let's just take his first point. While we aren't quite at 40 trillion of debt (we stand at a little over 36 trillion) he's correct about the 1.9 trillion deficit. Why? The president elect just called for eliminating the debt ceiling in exchange for a continuing resolution. Why? 45 approved $8.4 trillion of new ten-year borrowing during his first full term in office, ($4.8 trillion excluding the CARES Act and other COVID relief). President Biden, in his first three years and five months in office, approved $4.3 trillion of new ten-year borrowing, or $2.2 trillion excluding the American Rescue Plan. The Bush and Trump tax cuts are responsible for more than 90 percent of the change in the trajectory of the debt ratio to date. Tax cuts, the Great Recession and Covid are responsible for the growth of the US Debt level.

My point being, while I share Tapio's concerns about debt levels and the deficit, the incoming administration's plan is to continue the tax cuts from the first term and in fact to expand them. On top of that disastrous policy scenario, add to that tariffs on our biggest trade partners which will increase prices on everything we import and we have a recipe for financial ruin. What we CANNOT afford are tax cuts--and go ahead and slash mandatory spending for veteran's benefits, medicare, medicaid, and social security--but you cannot cut your way out of the impact of these tax cuts. America's debt level and deficit will get exponentially worse. Though inflation has come down to below the 100 year average (it's currently around 2.2% and the 100 year average has been 3% give or take) sixteen of the world's most notable economists — all Nobel Prize winners — have warned that the incoming administration's economic plans will reignite inflation and explode the deficit. So even when Tapio's statistics are close to accurate, the problem is what he believes is a solution, is no solution. Eliminating the debt ceiling would be a green light for the incoming administration to borrow, borrow, borrow and spend, spend, spend--fact is the party of "fiscal conservatives" is anything but and yeah, claiming the problem is the fault of immigrants and the poor and people of color and LGBGTQ folks and women and transgender (a fraction of 1% of the population) and the rest of the woke libtards on the government dole, only makes sense if you buy all the propaganda spread by the billionaires set to benefit from more tax cuts.

So disappointing that DS would run an opinion piece full of so many lies without him giving the “source” of his claims. (the US did NOT start covid). Do you not realize that other people read these opinions as facts? Of course he has learned from Trump that you don’t have to back up your claims , you can just blurt out anything you want and if you say it enough your followers will believe it.

Trump added 7 trillion to our debt and now he wants to abolish the debt ceiling. I don’t care what party you belong to, that is a horrible idea!

What is most prominently missing from this far right opinion piece that condemns almost everything and everyone, point by point, that is unlike the author is: "Love one another as I have loved you". and " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” How people can profess being Christians, read the bible, go to church, and then spread so much hate and division is just beyond me. I really like the NFL's new program of "stop the hate". ---

---The truth is, it is this element's turn to be lawfully in control and now we get to see what they can really do to make things better. America has to get past all our political extremism and let it run its course. It's what Democracy does and how America operates. I realize I'm asserting a "moderate" view that some might think is naive, but I have every confidence that no one element, no matter whose values they reflect, will sink America.

This is a great column and states many true things about the last 8 years. The resurgence of Trump and his victory began on Jan 21 2020, when Biden opened the borders, elevated trannie madness, and mandated DEI in all federal agencies, the military, and most other institutions in the US. It will take a strong effort to clean this Augean stable.

The Dakota Scout has the right to print "opinions", but I do not think it is responsible journalism to print opinions that include so much misinformation. Consider a disclaimer citing statements that have not been proven as facts.
