History will judge the 100th session of the South Dakota Legislature in ways we can’t yet fully predict. However, it is clear this session was shaped by a group of newly elected legislators emboldened by their victories and the re-election of their standard-bearer, Donald Trump.
So, what did we learn from a Legislature born from a primary election when fewer than two out of 10 South Dakota voters went to the polls — historically low participation and resulted in the election of 30 new freshmen members to the 105 member South Dakota Legislature?
