An owl terrorizing residents at Lake Okoboji this summer has been captured.
The relief came last week after residents who captured the bird turned it over to wildlife officials.
The owl had been flying and screeching at residents for weeks. Wildlife officials first tried to scare it away, but it returned.
Its capture came after it latched onto a woman’s thigh with its talons. Though lacerated, she held the bird by its legs until bystanders arrived with fishing nets to subdue the owl. Wildlife officers then arrived and transferred the owl to a cage. They intended to transport the bird to a location far enough away that it wouldn’t return.
What was the owl’s intent? Residents speculate that it might have been raised by humans and associates people with food.
Watch:
He might be blind from West Nile. We had one at the Dell Rapids cemetery that acted that way. It was captured and tested. It was blind and had to be put down :(
