Thune, Rounds get high marks from voters
National poll puts S.D. senators in top-10 of approval, but both face decisions that could weigh down futures
South Dakota Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds continue to enjoy strong approval ratings, breaking into the top of Morning Consult’s quarterly national poll of registered voters.
The top-10 includes a mix of Republicans and Democrats who come from states that are generally dominated by one political party. Republicans Thune and Rounds hail from a state where half the registered voters are in the GOP and fewer than a quarter are Democrats.
Wyoming’s John Barrasso, also a Republican, has had the highest approval rating in the Senate for more than two years. The latest poll, released last week, shows him at 71 percent approval.
