Thomason gets nod from former opponent in Sioux Falls City Council runoff
Allison Renville endorses Richard Thomason, who faces Jordan Deffenbaugh in April 30 election
Allison Renville is now backing one of her former competitors in the at-large Sioux Falls City Council race that’ll be decided at a runoff election later this month.
One of three candidates who had been vying for a four-year, citywide term on the council, Allison Renville on Friday took to social media to voice support in the race for Richard Thomason, who edged both Renville and Jordan Deffenbaugh in the April 9 municipal election.

“In South Dakota, we need politically experienced and rational allies in every lane and on all sides of every aisle to accomplish what we can,” Renville wrote on Facebook. “So with that being said; I plan on voting for Richard Thomason.”
While Thomason, a Sioux Falls banker and former state lawmaker, earned 44 percent of the vote — more than Deffenbaugh’s 36 percent and Renville’s 14 percent — the fact that no one earned a majority of the vote means the top two vote-getters advanced to a runoff.
