Sioux Falls’ national champs, lake sturgeon revival, censured lawmakers, Kamala Harris ties record
The under-17 girls’ soccer team from Dakota Alliance Soccer Club in Sioux Falls made history on July 23 by becoming the first South Dakota team to win a U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship.
The team’s run started with a historic regional title in St. Louis in June. During the National Championship tournament in Orlando, Florida, DASC put on a dominant performance, scoring 17 goals in five games while conceding 4.
This writer confesses to a certain bias, having been a coach at DASC for nearly 15 years and having friends with daughters on the team. Also, I just like it when South Dakota performs well on a national stage.
And perform they did. From regionals until the national championship, DASC defeated teams ranked number 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, and 13 in the country.
