Why are these public school lobbyists so afraid of choice(s) for kids? Our public schools are failing our kids at an unbelievable rate - total systemic failure, but all we can talk about are homeschool families??
We either believe our kids deserve better or we don’t. It’s binary - up or down. Fix the public education system.
We need to ask why are kids dropping out of public school early? Why are they leaving to homeschool? Why can't public schools reach these kids before they leave? Why are 1/2 of SD students unable to read or do math proficiently? Why do I, as a homeschool parent have to prove to our failing public schools that I'm an adequate parent/educator? Why are they my overlord? No where in the state constitution does it give public schools the power to oversee all parents. The constitution only requires that there is free education accessible to all and if you want to look into that there are many schools that have forced kids out and told them to homeschool- in direct violation of the constitution. Our public schools are on record and have proven to the public that they are failing 50%+ of our kids. If you want accountability for homeschoolers, I say, ok, as long as we're not doing worse than public schools we should be good, right? We need to understand that government schools do not own our children. They are only responsible for the kids who are enrolled in their systems, take care of them first before you worry about broadening the reach.
