Summit Carbon Solutions denied more time for South Dakota pipeline project
Regulators reject request for indefinite extension that followed eminent domain prohibitions

Summit Carbon Solutions still isn't waiving the white flag after yet another setback for its long-planned carbon pipeline project in South Dakota.
But according to state regulators who on Tuesday denied a request from the Iowa-based carbon sequestration company for an indefinite extension on its application to site a pipeline through the eastern part of the state, a new law and persistent landowner opposition make the project — as proposed — an impossibility.
“The PUC’s duty is to make a decision based on a route—one route. The current route in my view is not viable,” Public Utilities Commissioner Kristie Fiegen said Tuesday while considering Summit’s request.
