South Dakota to open law enforcement training to tribal police
Gov. Noem, Attorney General Jackley say state will help tribes ready new officers for field duty with exclusive course
South Dakota’s police academy will offer training exclusively to tribal police recruits this summer.
That’s according to Gov. Kristi Noem, who says Attorney General Marty Jackley has agreed to establish a “tribal law enforcement specific” certification course at the Law Enforcement Training Academy he oversees in Pierre.
“Just for tribal officers — so they can be equipped to go back to their home communities and help keep them safe,” the Republican governor said during a stop in Sioux Falls Thursday, noting it will be open to all nine of South Dakota’s tribes.
