South Dakota to join 19 other states requiring age verification on porn sites
Gov. Larry Rhoden signed bill into law Thursday after near-unanimous passage in House and Senate.
South Dakotans will soon have to prove their age to access pornography on the internet.
Gov. Larry Rhoden signed HB 1053 on Thursday. The bill passed the House 61-5 and the Senate 34-0.
The law will require age verification by websites containing “material that is harmful to minors.”
“As parents, we just want to protect our kids. But technology moves so fast that it often seems impossible,” Rhoden said in a news release. “I will continue to find ways to keep South Dakota safe for our kids.”
