South Dakota reaches settlement with NCAA over disputed payout

The South Dakota Board of Regents and the NCAA have settled a legal challenge brought by the state alleging that South Dakota universities and others in their class were being treated unfairly, Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Wednesday.
The suit, brought on behalf of South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota, argued that schools in non-Power Four athletic conferences were bearing a disproportionate share of a $2.8 billion settlement negotiated by the NCAA. That settlement involved three class-action lawsuits brought by former student athletes who sought compensation for their participation in sports. The settlement also agreed to compensate current and future athletes for their participation and for marketing dollars when their names, images or likeness were used.
