South Dakota Mines president sets retirement date
Board of Regents announces summer search to replace
The South Dakota Board of Regents will have some work to do this summer.
The board will look for a new president of South Dakota Mines following the announcement that President Jim Rankin will retire on June 21. Rankin leaves after six years at the helm of the university from which he graduated.
The Board of Regents announced Monday that Lance Roberts, the current provost and vice president of academic affairs, will serve as interim president while the board searches for a new president this summer.
"South Dakota Mines is a university with distinctive needs and opportunities," said BOR Executive Director Nathan Lukkes in a release announcing Rankin’s retirement. “President Rankin was able to impact student success, strategically outline institutional objectives, and strengthen relationships with industry partners locally and nationally.”
