Jane Stavem says oversight controls necessary; will finish school year before stepping down
The Sioux Falls School District superintendent called for tighter controls over homeschooling during a press conference to announce her resignation.
Jane Stavem on Friday announced her planned retirement from the K-12 public school system and South Dakota’s largest public school district, where she’s led since 2020.
The longtime educator praised the community for its commitment to academic excellence, a reason she says she hopes to stay in Sioux Falls when she decides what she wants to do next. But Stavem also said South Dakota has a festering problem: no homeschool oversight.
