Sioux Falls police chief addresses Liberian protesters demanding more security after apartment complex murder
Members of Sioux Falls’ Liberian community protested outside City Hall Friday, demanding greater security and police presence after one of theirs was murdered last month.
Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum responded, standing in the rain outside City Hall to address the protesters and answer their questions.
The protest was in response to the Aug. 20 murder of Tunis Lomax. The 36-year-old man died after being shot outside an apartment complex near 26th Street and Bahnson Avenue. The crime has gone unsolved.
Thum addressed the unsolved crime, saying police needed the help of the community.
“I know that most homicide investigations are solved by people, not fancy DNA,” he said.
