Sioux Falls attorney wants the Northeast District spot on City Council
Four spots up for grabs in next spring's election
Another candidate has jumped into the 2024 Sioux Falls City Council race.
Tarek Maalouf, an attorney and actuary in Sioux Falls, announced his candidacy Wednesday for the council’s Northeast District, saying he’s committed to supporting policies that foster affordable housing, public safety and economic development.
“The things that drew me to Sioux Falls are the things I want to focus on maintaining as the Northeast’s next city councilor: affordable housing, low crime, and a thriving downtown,” said Maalouf, who grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to Sioux Falls in 2021. “I remember growing up and seeing our downtown movie theater abandoned. And then I remember coming to Sioux Falls and seeing the vibrant downtown anchored by the newly reopened State Theatre. Sioux Falls is a city on the rise and I want to help keep it that way.”
