Short Veto Day puts bow on 2024 legislative session
No vetoes from Gov. Kristi Noem makes for quick final day of 99th Legislature
PIERRE — State lawmakers who braved winter weather conditions to commute to the State Capitol Tuesday were rewarded with an eight minute floor session that put the 2024 lawmaking session to bed.
Delayed by one day due to blizzard conditions across much of eastern South Dakota, lawmakers had only to finalize the end of the 99th Legislative Session by adjourning sine die — Latin for “without a day” — finalizing the end of session.
“Eight minutes, a new record,” remarked House Speaker Hugh Bartels after dropping the gavel for his final time.
