Sen. Mike Rounds: Relations with VP Kamala Harris 'cordial,' but 'heart' not in Senate work
Republican senator talks policy issues, but also shares political thoughts during chamber appearance
Senate Republicans are upbeat about their chances of winning a majority in next month’s general election, as polling in key battleground states show tightening races, Sen. Mike Rounds told The Dakota ScoutWednesday.
“It’s surprising what’s happening,” Rounds said, pointing to polling data from Montana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio, states where Democratic Senate incumbents are running for another term.
Rounds spoke to the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, the last of South Dakota’s congressional delegation to address the group in its annual Inside Washington series. Rounds said he had time to do it because the Senate majority leader, New York Democrat Chuck Schumer, adjourned the Senate until after the election on Nov. 5. Rounds accused Schumer of stonewalling legislation in order to protect Democratic colleagues from making difficult votes.
