A Flandreau girl broke a judicial glass ceiling in South Dakota a quarter century ago this week when the United States Senate confirmed Karen Schreier to the federal bench.
But the nomination of the farm girl from Moody County almost didn’t happen after some political gamesmanship that today is commonplace in Washington, D.C. nearly derailed the summer’s judicial confirmation hearings.
