Deadwood pioneer Otto Grantz made the find of a lifetime 125 years ago.
According to the Oct. 5, 1899, edition of The Brookings Register, Grantz estimated his discovery had produced $50,000 of gold ore in just a few days, reportedly said to create more excitement than any other before in the Black Hills.
