SCOUTING REPORT | Wiener dog champ, walleye fishing contest, McKennan Park donation, acknowledging a tough day

The Sioux Falls Stampede are in the middle of a successful season, sitting in second place in the United States Hockey League’s Western Conference with two games in hand. The Stampede beat the Fargo Force 6-1 on Feb. 8, a game that featured many goals and many fights – including a rare goalie brawl.
But the night belonged to Rockefeller. He was the wiener dog who prevailed over more than 50 other Dachshunds in the Stampede’s annual Wiener Dog Races. The contest occurred in front of a sell-out crowd of 11,029 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Rockefeller was among the first and second-place winners in two heats that raced in the intermission between the first and second periods. The Sioux Falls Dachshund then beat out three other dogs – Winston, Jonsey and Kusco – in the final race during the second intermission. Jonsey was from Mansfield, Texas, while the other two finalists were also local racers.
