New forensics evidence in the 2021 tragic death of Director of Photography Halyna Hutchin revealed that the firearm used in the accidental shooting could not have fired the live round without the trigger being pulled. Producer/Actor Alec Baldwin was originally charged with manslaughter but the charges were later dropped when the defense argued the gun had been modified for the production and called into question whether it could have been fired without pulling the trigger. Special prosecutors assigned to the case commissioned a new study and those results say, “This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger.” No word yet on any new charges being filed, meanwhile the film involved, Rust, quietly completed production earlier this year in Montana.
