Sanford Health in merger negotiations with Minnesota-based Fairview
Merger talks revive deal that was in the works 10 years ago
Sanford Health, South Dakota’s largest private employer, is engaged in merger talks with Minnesota-based M Health Fairview, The Dakota Scout has confirmed.
If successful, the merger would give Sanford, the country’s largest rural health care system, its first foray into a major metropolitan market. Fairview’s hospitals include facilities in the Twin Cities, among them the University of Minnesota Medical School.
It would also create a sprawling health system spanning much of the Upper Great Plains, with medical clinics across Minnesota and the Dakotas, reaching into Iowa and Nebraska.
