Revenue department moves to quash subpoenas in corruption probe
Lawmakers moved to compel testimony earlier this year
PIERRE — Department of Revenue officials do not want to appear to testify before the Legislature’s Government Operations and Audit Committee (GOAC).
Through a filing by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office, Revenue Secretary Michael Houdyshell and Director of Motor Vehicles Rosa Yaeger filed a motion late last month to quash a subpoena compelling the pair to testify before the legislative committee tasked with investigation and oversight of state government.
The subpoenas - approved by the Legislature’s Executive Board in October - were requested by GOAC after officials from the department provided scant details into a handful of fraud incidences that have come to light within the department this year.
