Residency of lawmaker under scrutiny following home purchase outside of his district
Sen. Bryan Breitling say he continues to live in District 23 after buying Minnehaha County property last year
A South Dakota legislator representing a portion of north-central South Dakota says he continues to reside in the district in which he was elected despite owning a home and working in the Sioux Falls metro.
Sen. Bryan Breitling’s residency is in the spotlight as public records raise questions about whether the District 23 lawmaker is in violation of residency requirements for the South Dakota Legislature.
That’s because property records from Hand and Minnehaha Counties show the Republican legislator recently sold his former residence near Miller following the purchase of a home in rural Dell Rapids, which is encompassed by District 25. And that home is listed as his primary residence on Minnehaha County property records.
