Rapid City School Board fires superintendent following suspension for 'derogatory comments'
Fallout for Nicole Swigart follows from Department of Education report on district's treatment of Native Americans
The Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday night to remove its superintendent following allegations that she made offensive comments directed at Native Americans during a federal investigation.
Nicole Swigart, who had served as superintendent for just over two years, was removed from the position by her school board on a 6 to 1 vote in front of a packed house, following the report published in May by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.
