U.S. Senate committee chaired by Sen. Rand Paul recommends confirmation on 13-2 vote
President Donald Trump’s nomination of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to his cabinet advanced hours after the commander and chief’s inauguration Monday.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs voted 13-2 in support of the president’s longtime ally assuming the role of secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, setting up a vote on her nomination on the Senate floor later this week.
The vote was one of the first actions the Senate took following Trump’s swearing in ceremony. The president becomes only the second in U.S. history to serve two non-consecutive terms.
