Noem announces legislation to restrict foreign ownership of ag land, cites China
Board would have broad discretion to review land transfers involving foreign entities
Gov. Kristi Noem took another shot at China on Tuesday, announcing that legislation will be proposed to restrict the purchase of agriculture land by foreign entities.
She was joined in the announcement by Republican Sens. Gary Cammack, the Senate majority leader, and Erin Tobin.
The legislation would create a board called the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States — South Dakota. The committee would investigate ag land purchases by foreign entities and recommend approval or denial to the governor.
