City started program two decades ago amid rapid spread of West Nile virus
The number of mosquitoes that have been trapped so far in the Sioux Falls mosquito control program is below normal given this season’s wet weather, the city’s environmental health manager said Wednesday.
Dominic Miller credited that number to the work that his 20 seasonal employees have been performing.
“This shows the program is working as it should,” he said.
As of Tuesday, precipitation in the Sioux Falls area so far in 2024 was 2.5 inches more than normal, according to the National Weather Service. More rain is forecast for the next seven days.
