Mosquito kill teams hitting Sioux Falls neighborhoods, parks
Complaints pour into City Hall about the pests following heavy rains
When he got into the office Monday morning, Dominic Miller had 1,673 emails in his inbox. Of those, 99.9 percent were complaints about mosquitoes.
Well, challenge accepted.
Miller, the environmental manager for Sioux Falls, said the city will be pulling out all the stops this week to kill adult mosquitoes. This comes as Sioux Falls is on record-setting pace for the amount of precipitation that has fallen so far in 2024, leading to ideal breeding habitat for the flying pests.
The city’s mosquito control teams typically work to eradicate breeding grounds for mosquitoes, attempting to stop them from reaching the adult stage. But this week the city will be going full-in on eliminating adults.
