More leadership chaos at South Dakota's chief prison
Latest warden dismissal given without explanation, follows lockdowns
South Dakota’s Department of Corrections dismissed another top official at one of its most senior positions Tuesday, threatening to undermine the department’s biggest expansions in history.
DOC staff were informed Tuesday evening that Teresa Bittinger, the warden of the South Dakota State Penitentiary, no longer serves as the chief officer of the facility. The state pen houses the most dangerous offenders in the state’s men’s prison. She was the third warden in as many years.
