Minnehaha County sets timeline for reissuing marijuana dispensary license
License reverted back to county after it wasn't used
Minnehaha County will restart the process of issuing a medical marijuana dispensary license after the company that won the license in 2021 forfeited it last month.
The County Auditor’s Office will begin accepting new applications for a medical marijuana dispensary on Oct. 10. The deadline to apply is Nov. 13, Auditor Leah Anderson told the County Commission on Tuesday.
However, the representative of a company that previously applied for the county’s one license but did not get it thinks the application process is unnecessary. TJ Cameron told the commission that Shangri-La SD won the third and fourth spots in the 2021 lottery. Because the winner of the first two spots, Genesis Farms, forfeited the license, Cameron said he thinks Shangri-La should get the license by virtue of being next in the 2022 drawing.
“We were notified we would be in a back-up position should they not perform,” he said.
