Minnehaha County gets one applicant for medical cannabis license
Ohio company saw Lincoln County license revoked
The state’s fledgling marijuana industry isn’t beating the door down to open a dispensary in South Dakota’s most populous county.
Minnehaha County received just one application for the county’s only medical marijuana dispensary license. The county had been soliciting applications in a window between Oct. 10 and Nov. 13. Because only one application was received, there will be no need for a random drawing, said Kym Christiansen, the Minnehaha County Commission’s recorder.
But there is still a long way to go before the county will have its first dispensary outside of city limits. The application triggers a 60-day review period in which planning and zoning, sheriff and state’s attorney will determine whether the applicant, Shangri La SD, meets legal requirements, Christiansen said.
The dispensary would be located at 7401 E. Arrowhead Parkway.
