This is a good start to eliminate lobbyists out of these positions. I don't know who Fitzgerald lobbies for, but Koenecke's ties to Summit Carbon Solutions must be questioned if he runs for office again. As one of Summit's attorneys, he supports its goal of taking land by eminent domain -- which goes against the Republican Party's PRIVATE PROPERTY - "We support private property rights as guaranteed by the fifth amendment to the United States Constitution"...specifically Section 1.6 which reaffirms "We support private property rights and DUE PROCESS".

Also check out Pat Powers's comments on his blog, South Dakota War College. Looks like there's a fight brewing at the upcoming state GOP meeting.

I'm not sure when Reggie left the SD Secretary of State's Office and his responsibilities as "Pistol Permit Administrator," but as of 2022, it must be a pretty cushy job. As the SOS website makes clear, "South Dakota residents and nonresidents who may lawfully possess a pistol are not required to have a permit in order to carry a concealed pistol in this state (SDCL 23-7-7)." So permits are really only for those taking the "have gun, will travel" approach. But while I question overly lax gun regulation and a governor who endorses universal gun possession, I have to remind myself that guns are a god-given right, which makes conservatives sleep better after each "incident."
