I have seen many people that have troubles living on their own. They need help. Jail or prison are not the answer for them but some kind of institutional supervision works.

Continued underfunding of our state hospital in Yankton leaves those people in prison or on the street.

It’s a tough thing to figure out the perfect balance- if there is such a thing. We can spin the finger pointing game spinner and blame a lot of the weakest points but at the end of the day a lot falls onto the individual to help himself. The federal and state governments have the poorest record to help those individuals.

I think that at one point in time I may have fallen into the category of a lawbreaker. I finally realized that I need to shed the crappy friends and make myself a valuable person in our society.

I wished there was a way for those that have gone through the system to be able to realize that once they’ve lifted themselves up and became an asset to society that their past is expunged without having to beg the Governor for a pardon. Set the goals, realize the goal, have the past record expunged, become a contributing member of society.
