Leonard Peltier denied bid for parole in Pine Ridge murders
American Indian Movement activist convicted of killing FBI agents in 1970s
The United States Parole Commission has denied parole to the man charged with the murders of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in 1975.
Leonard Peltier, 79, who was convicted of a pair of first-degree murder charges in the deaths of FBI agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams, will not be released from prison after making another attempt to bring an end to his consecutive life sentences last month.
The Parole Commission said in a statement Tuesday that Peltier, who has made several attempts to appeal his sentence over the years and briefly escaped from prison in 1979, would not be eligible for another parole hearing until at least June 2026.
