Legislative hopefuls talk 'Landowner Bill of Rights,' role of government in South Dakota
Partisan voters to decide 45 primaries in June 4 election
Hundreds of South Dakotans all across the state are hoping to represent their neighbors at the state Capitol in Pierre for the next two years.
But for many partisans with intra-party competition, they’ll first need to earn their parties’ nominations during next week’s South Dakota primary election in order to advance to the general election in November.
Those races could ultimately determine the direction of each chamber over the next two years, and who the leaders of both the House and the Senate are.
The Dakota Scout sent a series of three questions and a request for pieces of biographical information to all legislative candidates running in contested primary races for the state House and Senate in the June 4 election. Candidates were asked to limit their responses to each question to 150 words or less.
Of the 45 different contests, only one includes a Democratic race — Sen. Red Dawn Foster faces a challenge for her Senate seat. The remaining races below are all Republican primaries.
The top two voter getters in House primary contests will advance to the general election, while one senate candidate will earn a spot on the November ballot.
Races are in order based on the district number, and candidates are listed in the order they appear on the ballot.
