Gov. Kristi Noem and her staff charged more than $650,000 to state-issued credit cards in five years of transactions obtained by The Dakota Scout.
The charges include $30,000 between the time Noem was named as the nominee to be the Department of Homeland Security secretary by President Donald Trump and her confirmation in late January.

The Scout secured the records through a settlement reached with the South Dakota State Auditor’s Office, after an earlier denial of the records prompted the newspaper to file an open records lawsuit.
The charges largely include expenses related to travel, such as airfare, car rentals, hotels and food.
