Karl Rove calls Sioux Falls 'red America'
Watch Rove describe November speech he gave in Sioux Falls
Republican strategist Karl Rove was a participant at this summer’s Aspen Ideas Festival. In his one-hour Q&A on the GOP’s plan for the future with journalist Katie Couric, Rove recounted a speech he gave in Sioux Falls in November.
Rove spoke at the 41st annual South Dakota Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner and Children’s Charities. It’s an event, he noted, that has attracted the likes of Colin Powell, Barbara Bush and other “patriotic” speakers.
A video of the Rove-Couric conversation was posted to YouTube this month.
He described Sioux Falls as “America.”
“It’s red America, but it is America,” he said.
“They said, ‘Give a patriotic and speech and then save lots of time for Q&A.’”
Following the speech, Rove was asked about what he thought of Joe Biden running for re-election at the age of 82. Rove said that at the risk of “pissing off” Democrats, he thought it was too old. Then, he shifted to Donald Trump, noting that he would be 78, which Rove thinks is also too old.
“I said, ‘Our country deserves better than this. Our country faces big challenges and we’d be better off if we had somebody other than the 78-year-old and the 82-year-old running for president.’
“And guess what? 2,500 people stood up and cheered. That’s in red America.”
The reaction, Rove thinks, is evidence that many voters are ready for a new generation of leadership.
Maybe Rove is too old to make that judgement. Remember this Quote ?- “I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience.” Ronald Reagan 1984.
Never understood how age, by itself, is a decider of a person's cerebral competence...
