Historic house with ties to Lincoln has small town, state at odds
State Historical Society says plans to raze structure cannot move forward
BLUNT – Beaten and battered alongside Highway 14 in Blunt, South Dakota is a small, two-story house that connects the Rushmore State to America’s most famous president.
And though the city of Blunt - the building’s owner - plans to demolish the building later this year, those plans could be halted as a result of the city’s failing to notify state officials of their plan.
Across from the city’s only gas station, which also serves as a convenience store and restaurant, stands the Mentor Graham House. The site is the former homestead of the man credited with giving President Abraham Lincoln his education.
