Scarred hillside evidence $5M spillway project at Lake Alvin nearing
Draw down of lake anticipated in July, tree remnants to remain until then
A 105-acre lake in eastern South Dakota will be drained in July to make way for a new spillway.
Though the Game, Fish & Parks Department, heading up the $5 million project at Lake Alvin Recreation Area east of Harrisburg, doesn't yet have a contractor in place for the undertaking, work has already begun in preparation for the summer drawdown.
