Gaming companies scrambling for remaining video lottery locations in Sioux Falls
City licensing office received 29 applications for malt beverage licenses eligible for video lottery
The law of supply and demand is on full display in South Dakota’s largest city.
A city council-backed cap on the number of video lottery casinos that can operate in Sioux Falls has sparked a run on the city’s remaining available beer and wine licenses eligible for gaming locations.
The Sioux Falls City Attorney’s licensing office has received 29 applications seeking malt beverage licenses that would entitle their eventual owners to offer up to 10 video lottery gambling machines at a single location.
But with just 21 available licenses, it’ll be up to the City Council to determine who gets them.
“The Council will have to decide those last 21,” Sioux Falls Licensing Specialist Jamie Palmer told The Dakota Scout. “Eight of them are going to walk away disappointed.”
