Henry, Lainey climb ranking of year's most popular baby names
9,000 births at Sanford Health highlight monikers preferred by parents
Oliver is again the most popular boy name of the year at Sanford Health while a different girls name claims that rank this time around.
The Sioux Falls-based hospital system Friday released its ranking of the most popular names given to babies born in its maternity wards in 2024.
Oliver has been the most popular name now for four consecutive years. Lainey topped the list on the girls side of the card.
After being the second most popular name last year, Henry clinched the second-place spot for most popular boy names, while Amelia moved up two spots from 2023 to the No. 2 spot for most popular girl names in 2024.
Coming in third place for boys was Liam, up from a tie with the No. 6 spot in 2023. For girls, Evelyn moved down from second place in 2023 to the No. 3 spot in 2024.
In fourth place, there was a three-way tie in the girl’s category. Aurora, Charlotte and Nora tied for the No. 4 spot, while Theodore moved up from the No. 6 spot tie with Liam last year to No. 4 in 2024.
Wrapping up the top five baby names born at Sanford Health in 2024 was Olivia on the girl’s side and Brooks on the boy’s side.
Sanford Health has delivered nearly 9,000 babies so far in 2024.
