GOP leaders to propose legislative travel reform
Proposal restricts power of House speaker, Senate leader to approve out-of-state trips
Republican leaders in the South Dakota Legislature are fixing to reform lawmaker travel policy.
The highest ranked legislators in both the South Dakota state Senate and House of Representatives have drafted legislation seeking to rein in taxpayer-backed trips for their colleagues who are on their way out of the Capitol building, Senate President Pro Tempore Lee Schoenbeck said Friday.
“The incoming speaker of the House and myself are going to introduce legislation that would restrict our offices’ power with respect to out-of-state travel for lame-duck legislators,” he said while a guest on The Dakota Scout’s weekly podcast.
